GI-TOC Annual General Meeting 2023

The Network of Experts is at the heart of the work that the Global Initiative undertakes. It makes the GI-TOC more than just another 'think tank' in a crowded space, because the active intervention and engagement of the members of the Network are central and have moved the organization forward. It has grown significantly in size, expanding from an initial group of 27 founding members to more than 600 in ten years. (Mark Shaw, GI-TOC Director)
This year’s AGM will take place as a virtual meeting on Thursday, 16th November 2023 from 3:00-5:00 pm CET

AGM 2022 Progress Action Points
Update and discussion
During the consultation process prior to and during the 2021 AGM, Network members provided comments and inputs for the work of the Global Initiative.
We are very grateful for the efforts and inputs that were provided and tried to respond to these inputs and issues over the first three quarters of 2022.
Consolidated Results of the Regional Consultation Meetings
Update and discussion
Based on the approximate member concentration per region of residence, the secretariat is organizing ten regional consultation meetings (four for Europe, one for Africa and MENA, one for Asia and the Pacific, two for North America and two for Latin America). Each meeting will be chaired by a Network member who will also act as the group representative, reporting back to the global Annual General Meeting on 16 November 2023.

Interim Annual Report 2023

Financial Statement 2022 and Interim Financial Statement 2023
for adoption
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, income continues to grow and the organization remains in good financial health. With the likelihood that grants that are now in negotiation will be signed in the near future, we anticipate exceeding the 2021 high watermark income levels of CHF 13.48 million (US$13.9 million). We received a clean audit for 2021, with a surplus for the three financial–legal entities (Switzerland, Austria and South Africa).

Governance and Management of the Network
Update and discussion

Status of Board terms and composition
for adoption
The GI-TOC's Board is crucial to the management and operation of the organization, providing strategic direction and advisory functions as well as fiduciary oversight. The current Board has been appointed in stages as the work of the GI-TOC has grown over the years. The Board has played a key role in the growth of the organization, with a strong focus on ensuring accountability and transparency in the institution’s day to day work.
This note provides an overview of the Board’s current composition and recent developments.

Global Strategy against Organized Crime
Update and discussion
In 2021, the GI-TOC began a debate about the future of international cooperation to prevent and counter transnational organized crime. Furthermore, the GI-TOC began to explore how to facilitate more effective international cooperation – including the participation of civil society – in areas not covered by the UNTOC, including the relationship between organized crime and conflict; the impact of organized crime on peacebuilding, development, the environment and human rights; as well as organized crime and gender.
The GI-TOC intends to explore what role it can play in developing a global strategy against organized crime to enhance analysis of, encourage action against and support resilience to organized crime in order to reduce its negative impact on people, the environment, businesses and states.

Thank you for your participation in the GI-TOC Annual General Meeting 2023!
